Streetscape Update – March 10, 2017 A lot of action is happening in our downtown! We have multiple companies working on a variety of aspects of the project. •Waterline installation continues and have quickly moved to the block in front of Happy Dollar, Emma Gray Boutique, and Subway. Street parking in this area is temporarily unavailable.•Sidewalk and curb work has occurred on the first block of the project from West Street to Shelby Street. Sidewalk work is beginning on the next block that includes El Agave Mexican Restaurant, Lucky Penny Boutique, The Type Shop, Montevallo Realty, Hirano Ha Karate Do and the Main Street entrance to the First Baptist Church. Access to these businesses will remain available as the contractors have agreed to provide bridge access to each entrance over any wet concrete.•Alabama Power is also on site preparing for the removal and relocation of power poles. Once these poles are removed, concrete installation will begin. Please take note that our current street lighting is connected to the power poles and will also be eliminated in the process. New lighting will be installed later in the project. Businesses are encouraged to leave lights on in their storefronts to assist with lighting for pedestrians. Conduit installation continues for the wiring of our new traffic signals. This may temporarily cause road closures and/or one lane delays. Chilton Contractors are working at a fast pace and are committed to continue work to avoid delays. Therefore, work has progressed and is occurring on multiple blocks. Keep in mind, public parking lots are available on Island Street and street parking can be utilized on side streets. Please continue to support our downtown businesses! Thank you for your cooperation and patience during this time of growth! All the best, Sarah
