Recycling Center

The Montevallo Recycling Center serves residents by providing them a place to recycle their household materials at no cost. In the last year, the recycling center has become a one stop shop for recycling and reusing. We now offer easy recycling through a partnership with RePower South. We also have electronic recycling and plastic film recycling available at the center. In addition, we have an America’s thrift store donation bins available for all other donating needs. Please click this link to know what donations are and are not accepted. Other local places to take donations include but are not limited to other thrift stores, Shelby Emergency Assistance, Salvation Army, or post your unwanted items on Facebook marketplace to give them a second home. When all else fails, you can take your unwanted items to the Shelby County Landfill.

There is absolutely no dumping of mattresses, construction materials, appliances, air filters, trash, or dumping of any kind at after hours (whether recycled materials or not) at the Montevallo Recycling Center. Violators will be prosecuted – we have cameras!

The Recycling Center follows all City Hall scheduled holidays including New Year's Day, MLK day, Presidents Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. If a holiday falls on a Friday or Monday, the recycling center will also be closed Saturday in observance of the holiday weekend.

Electronic Recycling

The City of Montevallo has partnered with Protec Recycling to offer electronic recycling for our residents! E-recycling is offered during normal business hours.

Please see this list of accepted items and this list of non-permissible items. CRT Monitors are not accepted. Anything requiring a fee, we cannot accept.

TREX Plastic Film

Montevallo also entered Trex’s plastic film recycling challenge where, for every 500 pounds of plastic film, about 40,500 bags collected in 6 months, Trex will exchange the plastic for an outdoor bench. We collected and recycled our first 500lbs in less than 6 months. Our first bench was installed in Owl’s Cove Park in November 2020 to celebrate America Recycles Day!

Collect and drop off your plastic film at City Hall or at the Recycling Center in designated bins.

Plastic film includes grocery bags, bread bags, newspaper sleeves, cereal bags, and produce bags. All plastic bags must be clean, dry, and free of food residue.

Are you up for the challenge? Ready, set, recycle!
